Cruise

Card Trick
With a good story about a family on a cruise, a packet of cards helplessly mixed up somehow sort themselves out.

Trick Secret
Take out all the Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Ace's from a deck of cards. Separate them into four piles of the same suit. They must all be in the order Jack, Queen, King, Ace with the Aces face down on top. Collect the piles from left to right.

The patter (or story) goes like this:

"Once upon a time there were four families, and they all went on a cruise."

Point at the pile of cards.

"The cruise was pleasant, but then they met up with a storm. In this storm they were thrown left,"
Cut the pile to the spectator's left and complete the cut.

and they were thrown right,"
Cut the pile to the spectator's right and complete the cut.

"and they were thrown forward."
Cut the pile to the spectator's forward and complete the cut.

"Suddenly the boat crashed! All the people were scattered out onto four different islands,"
Deal the first card forward to the table, the second card behind that card, the third card to the right of the cards on the table, the fourth card to the left of the cards on the table, the fifth card on top of the first card, and so on to make four piles.

"but, as you can see,"
Turn over first pile.

"all the (whatever the suit it may be) were on one island,"
Turn over the second pile.

"all the (whatever the suit may be) were on another island"
And so on. This is a very good self-working trick to begin your magical hobby. Practice the patter until it is memorized before performing this trick.
