Incredible Mess Recovery

Card Trick
The spectator picks a card and returns it to the deck. The deck is then made into a mix of face up and face down cards. With a magical tap and a wave, all the cards turn facedown, except for the spectator's chosen card.

Trick Secret
Have the spectator choose and replace a card on top of the deck. Give the deck a false cut. Follow this with a overhand shuffle putting top card (the spectator's card) on the bottom of the deck. With the deck in the left hand, push a pile of cards off of the top of the deck with your left thumb into your palm down right hand (keeping them in the same order) and turn your right hand over. Now push some more cards off of the top of the deck face down (keeping them in the same order) on top of the face up ones in your right hand. Turn your right hand over again and again put some face down cards on top of the right hand pile. Continue doing this until the last card (the spectator's chosen card) is reached. Without pausing, turn the deck over one more time and put the spectators card face down on the bottom of the deck. This leaves the deck in the following order (from top to bottom): half the deck face down, half the deck face up, and the spectator's card face down. The spectator however believes that the deck is in a terrible mess.

You can then demonstrate that this is a mess by cutting the cards at the top half and saying, "Now we have a mess of cards, some face up on the left," Put the deck back together. Cut the cards at the bottom half of the deck and say, "some face up on the right," Put the cards back together and cut to the very middle cards (the ones facing each other) and say, "and some cards back to back." As you say this line, turn the pile in your left hand over while placing the deck together. Now the deck is back to normal with all the cards being face down except the spectator's card, which is face up in the middle of the deck. Tap the deck, make a magical wave, and say "But magically, all the cards have returned to normal," spread the cards on the table, "except for one card, which should look familiar."
