The trick to being a really good player is to leave the cue ball where you want it after a shot. Making the cue ball stop dead in its tracks after it hits the object ball is called making it "stick."
1. Concentrate on the shot at hand. There is no point worrying about where you leave the ball if you're not going to continue shooting.
2. Aim to hit just below the dead center of the cue ball.
