How to Backward Cross-Step Turn on In-Line Skates:
When skating backward at a high speed, the best way to turn is the backward cross-step. This turn may feel awkward at first, but stick with it and you'll be an expert in no time.
1. Skate backward, looking over your shoulder to see where you are turning.
2. Stagger your skates and start leaning into your turn. Your outside skate should be the one that is more forward.
3. Slide your outside skate in front of the inside skate.
4. Push off with your outside skate after crossing over.
5. Lift your inside skate up as you are pushing off and cross it back to the normal riding position.
6. Stagger your skates and slide the outside skate across, and in front of, your inside skate again to repeat the entire process until your turn is complete.
