When you're stuck with the ball out near the sideline, how do you get it back closer to the goal? The answer is a cross (a pass from the sideline to center field) to one of your teammates.
1. Control the ball as you move down the wing (outside) of the field, eluding defenders along the way.
2. Glance to the middle of the field to see where your teammates are making runs.
3. Chip the ball to the area to which your teammates are moving (see 'eHow to Chip a Soccer Ball').
4. Pass the ball back to a teammate if you are approaching the goal line. Try to keep the ball low to the ground so your teammate can shoot more easily.
